HIT THE ROAD JACK

"Hit the Road Jack" is an R&B song written by Percy Mayfield and recorded by singer and musician Ray Charles in 1960. The song became one of Charles' most famous hits and is considered a classic of the genre.
The song was inspired by a phrase Mayfield heard from a woman during a heated argument: "Why don't you hit the road, Jack?" From there, Mayfield developed the lyrics of the song, which tells the story of a man being kicked out by his partner.
